Sajjan Kumar was convicted for his involvement in the brutal killings of a father-son duo, Jaswant Singh and Tarundeep Singh, in Delhi's Saraswati Vihar area on November 1, 1984.
The NIA Special Court in Kolkata, on Saturday convicted and sentenced one accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine in the 2019 Lokepur bomb blast case of West Bengal, the NIA said on Sunday.
Noting that confidence in India is "stronger than ever", Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that reforms are being undertaken by his government with full conviction.
While sentencing the convict the court said, "The number of road accidents and the number of deaths in road accidents in India has reached to an alarming situation which needs to be handled strictly."
"Since I have been a part of the JPC, I can say with all conviction that the preparation of the 655 pages report has been a meticulous exercise... The government of PM Narendra Modi wants proper management of the Waqf properties," the MP told ANI.
"We are grateful to the court, the public prosecutor Manish Rawat and the IO Jagdish Kumar who worked very hard on this... On the 18th of February, the court will pronounce the sentence..." Advocate Phoolka told reporters.
Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva on Wednesday took a dig at the Nehru-Gandhi family, alleging that they had nurtured and promoted those accused in the 1984 riots after Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi convicted former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The Rouse Avenue Court Convicted Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar for rioting, offence of murder, being a member of unlawful assembly and other offences. The court held that Sajjan Kumar was instigating the mob that killed the Father-Son duo in the Saraswati Vihar area on November 1, 1984.
The Supreme Court has asked the sessions court to adjudicate Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan's appeal against his conviction within six months. The court also treated him as a juvenile in the case.
