Sitapur District Drug Disposal Committee (DDC) on Saturday disposed of about 50 kilograms of contraband drugs which were seized by the police from time to time and stored in the Malkhanas of the various police stations of the district, said authorities.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation was launched by BSF and Punjab police in the early hours of Sunday on the outskirts of village Machiwara in Ferozepur district.
"Sensing an imminent threat and to stop further misadventure, BSF troops fired upon the miscreant in self-defence, killing him on the spot," read the statement
In a joint operation, Assam Rifles and Kamalpur police station on Tuesday seized 23 grams of drugs worth over Rs 9.2 lakhs and apprehended a person in Tripura's Dhalai district, officials informed through a statement.
They said that Karimganj district police and BSF jointly intercepted a vehicle at Kayasthagram Bazar area and seized 50 soap cases containing 768 grams of heroin.
During the operation, 94940 meth tablets were recovered in the Mualkawi area, and in another operation, 87720 meth tablets were recovered in the Khuangleng area, according to the officials
Police on Friday recovered and seized a large quantity of contraband drugs worth around Rs 5 crore in Assam's Nagaon town. The police also arrested three people in connection with this.
Prayagraj unit of the Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two persons, accused of smuggling contraband drugs, and seized around 100 Kg of Ganja here, officials said on Sunday.
The police also said that the drug peddler Shahid Hussain was shot in his leg while he was trying to escape. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Diphu.
The Special Narcotics team of Mizoram police and Assam Rifles in a joint operation has recovered a large quantity of contraband drugs worth over Rs 5 crore and apprehended two persons, said the police.
