Following the death of eight people after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday said the case will be transferred to Crime Branch CID for further probe.
Six people hailing from Ekkiyarkuppam near Marakkanam in Villupuram district died on Sunday. In Maduranthagam in Chengalpattu district, two persons died on Friday and a couple died on Sunday, all caused due to illicit liquor consumption, officials said.
In a tragic incident, three people died and 16 others were hospitalised in Marakkanam of Tamil Nadu's Viluppuram after allegedly consuming spurious liquor, the police said on Sunday.
Speaking to ANI on the deaths of six people in Motihari after allegedly consuming spurious liquor, CM Nitish Kumar said, "It is a sad incident. I have asked for all information on it."
The death toll in the Siwan hooch tragedy due to consuming spurious liquor in Bala Village in Lakari Nabiganj of Siwan district in Bihar rose to five on Monday.
"A total of three people have died after allegedly drinking spurious liquor in Siwan's Lakari Nabiganj. Seven people are undergoing treatment. Ten people have also been arrested in this connection," district magistrate Pandey said on Sunday.
Sharing an update on patients admitted after consuming spurious liquor, Dr Sanjay Kumar from the Primary Health Centre on Thursday said, "A total of 47 people were admitted here. Of them, some with minor symptoms were treated and discharged. Many had effects on vision due to toxins. Treatmen
"People have died in Bihar even before the Liquor ban. People responsible will be punished. Strict action will be taken without any discrimination. we have always taken action against the accused," he said.
The death toll in the alleged spurious liquor consumption case is expected to rise, police in Ishauvpur of Chhapra have said. Though the police have not confirmed the cause of death yet, it stirred a hue and cry among the villagers. It is apprehended that the number of deaths may increase
