India archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Aditi Gopichand Swami secured a win in the compound women's individual quarterfinal in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old Gopichand earned the title of 'World Champion' in the women's individual compound archery by defeating Mexico's Andrea Beccera in the final by 149-147 in a thrilling title clash.
The Indian women’s compound archery team of Aditi Gopichand Swami, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur secured a gold medal on Saturday. Earlier this month, the same trio had teamed up to win a gold at the Archery World Championships in Berlin.
India’s men’s compound archery team comprising Ojas Pravin Deotale, Prathamesh Jawkar and Abhishek Verma defeated the USA 236-232 in the final to top the podium.
With this, India has secured its highest medal tally in a single World Championships meet with a total of four, including three golds and a bronze won by Jyothi Surekha Vennam in women's individual compound archery. India's campaign at the Berlin meet concludes on Saturday.
On Monday, India took home six medals. In addition to four gold medals, India received a silver medal in men's individual 10m air rifle from Divyansh Singh Panwar and a bronze medal in men's individual compound archery from Aman Saini, as per Olympics.com.
The World Archery Youth Championships 2023 in Limerick, Ireland, have a 24-person Indian team competing. The event began on Monday, July 3, and will end on Sunday, July 9.
