The Ministry of Coal aims to produce 186.63 million tonnes of coal exclusively from captive or commercial coal mines during the financial year 2024-25 which starts this April.
In December 2023, the total coal production from captive and commercial coal mines was 14.04 MT, up by 38 per cent from 10.14 MT in the same month of the previous year.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Coal, the figures reveal remarkable growth, with coal production reaching 11.94 million tonnes (MT), reflecting a substantial 37 per cent increase compared to 8.74 MT in November 2022.
"Today Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi started the 8th round of commercial coal mines auction. In this total 39 coal blocks are offered. Out of this, 35 coal blocks are being offered for the first time and the other 4 have been offered before too," said Coal Mines Secretary Amrit Lal Me
The Ministry of Coal has extended the last date for submission of bids till June 27, 2023, for the ongoing seventh round of commercial coal mine auctions.
The Ministry of Coal will hold an interactive session with coal block allottees of captive and commercial coal blocks on Wednesday here in the national capital.
