The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government authorities for the illegal demolition of houses for road widening while terming the action by the state as "high-handed" and without authority of law.
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday on Tuesday launched three publications of the Supreme Court in the presence of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, CJI-designate Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, and Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
The letter highlights an alleged lack of action regarding recent incidents of judicial misconduct, particularly involving a senior advocate at the Madras High Court, which has led to growing agitation within the legal community.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday hit out Opposition for raising objection and questioning the impartiality of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud following PM Modi's visit to the CJI's house for Ganpati Puja.
In a self made video, Poonawalla said "News has come that CJI (Dy Chandrachud) has stopped his morning walk due to the spike in air pollution. Delhi has become a gas chamber and poisonous air is everywhere. You cannot even roam around without a mask."
The Chief Justice of India stated that he has stopped going for morning walks because of the rising levels of air pollution."I have stopped going out for morning walks due to the rising levels of air pollution in the national capital," he said.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday said that living life in oneness with nature can help people to combat challenges posed by climate change.
"The Bar and the bench are complementary to each other. We are mutual beneficiaries of each other and are here to learn from one another and to work towards the betterment of an independent and robust judiciary," he said.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Thrusday attended the first-ever International conference - Advancements of Research and Global Opportunities for Holistic Ayurveda - AROHA-2024 organised by All India Institute of Ayurveda.
"The blindfold on the statue of justice has been removed and the handheld sword is replaced with the Constitution. The new design is a great way to pay respect to the country's constitution. My greetings to the CJI for this," said Meghwal.
