China is set to launch a three day military drill around Taiwan after President Tsai Ing-Wen returned from US visit where she met House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, reported Taiwan News.
"The world had seen how the people stood even closer together when facing pressure and threats, and that being subject to pressure and obstacles did not stop Taiwan from conducting exchanges with the global community," she said.
Universities, institutions, organizations and people in China have been prohibited from carrying out exchanges and cooperation with the two US institutions that have been sanctioned. In addition, four senior representatives from these two organisations have been banned from entering China
Amid a high-profile meeting between Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen and US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, China's aircraft carrier Shandong engaged in a drill near Taiwan on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported.
Taking to Twitter, Taiwan's Defence Ministry said, " 5 PLA aircraft and 4 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected by 6 a.m.(UTC+8) today. R.O.C. Armed Forces have monitored the situation and tasked CAP aircraft, Navy vessels, and land-based missile systems to respond these activities."
