Sri Lanka has announced their 16-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International (T20I) series against India, starting July 27, with Charith Asalanka named as the new captain. Asalanka takes over from Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down earlier this month after a six-month tenure.
Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign concluded with a commanding 83-run victory over the Netherlands at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Sunday (local time).
Asalanka and Mendis played crucial knocks of 46 runs respectively while spirited cameos from Dhananjaya (34) and Angelo Mathews 30 off 15 helped Sri Lanka breach the 200-run mark.
Sri Lanka is a part of Group D along with South Africa, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Nepal. In the previous T20 WC in Australia back in 2022, Sri Lanka could not make it past the group stage, finishing at the fourth spot in group one with two wins and three losses.
