Assam Rifles and officials of the Customs Preventive Force of Champhai district in Mizoram recovered a consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 22,78,400 during a search operation in the general area of Zokhawthar, officials said on Monday.
In a joint operation, the Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force of Champhai in Mizoram recovered and seized 90 bags of poppy seeds weighing 5400 kg at the Zokhawthar area in Champhai district and arrested two.
To combat illegal activities, the police in Champhai district, Mizoram, have reported substantial success in seizing contraband drugs and areca nuts worth over Rs 34.12 crore and 40.60 lakh respectively this year, the statement said on Saturday.
The apprehended accused have been identified as Laldinpuii of Tahan who is a citizen of Myanmar and Lalengliani who is a resident of Champhai district's Zokhawthar town.
