Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday questioned the BJP's intention in questioning the state government's decision to re-conduct the caste census.
Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka on Tuesday alleged that the Congress High Command has delivered a "slap in the face" to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by ordering a fresh caste census, calling it a "victory" for Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and a "defeat" for the CM.
"The Congress high command has done injustice to the backward classes. The Congress high command also slammed Siddaramaiah, saying that it was 10 years old and the figures were old," Ravikumar, also the Chief Whip of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, told reporters here.
Addressing the issue of caste survey in Karnataka, state Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar asserted that the government knows the "sentiment of people" and "respect every life".
Responding to a question about his disappointment with the party's senior leaders' decision on the Kantharaj Commission report, he said, "We will take action as decided by the party seniors. This is not our decision."
