According to the police, smoke was first noticed coming out of the vehicle, after which it caught fire. Rahul Sharma Gyanchand, a resident of Hastinapur village in Meerut district, was driving the car. He managed to get out of the vehicle safely before the fire spread further.
According to the fire official, "A fire broke out from a parked electric car this afternoon and spread to a nearby Swift car. Three fire vehicles from Musheerabad, Gandhi Hospital and Robotic arrived at the scene and controlled the blaze."
The incident occurred near Sada village on the Mega Highway, within the limits of the Sindhari police station, around 1:30 am on Thursday, the police said.
Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, who reached the spot to assess the situation, said there were no casualties in the incident. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, escaped without injuries.
