Finnish authorities detained an oil tanker on Thursday over suspicions of involvement in damaging critical undersea cables, with indications that the vessel may be linked to Russia's "shadow fleet" designed to bypass Western sanctions, according to a report by The New York Times.
The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) conducted raids across multiple locations in Delhi, NCR and Mumbai belonging to Shilpi Cable Technologies Limited (SCTL) and its promoters, seizing Rs 1.88 crore cash and jewellery valued at Rs 2.28 crore, the ED said in a statement on Friday.
India is a vital hub in the global submarine cable network, hosting 17 international subsea cables across 14 landing stations in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Cochin, Tuticorin, and Trivandrum.
This comes in after a delay occurred in the Blue Line services of the Delhi metro running between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar due to a cable theft issue, as per DMRC.
Trains due to cable theft would operate at restricted speed on the affected section during the day and could result in a delay of the services, as per DMRC.
