Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar met the Indian Air Force pilots of C-17 transport aircraft on Saturday who were involved in an anti-piracy mission in the Indian Ocean under Operation Sankalp.
The C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force executed a precision air-born drop of two boats along with Indian Navy MARCOS in the Arabian Sea in support of anti-piracy 'Operation Sankalp'.
According to the Indian Air Force, capable of carrying multiple such platforms, the combat capabilities of C-17 aircraft will be further enhanced in its varied missions to air-deliver critical loads to troops on the ground.
Army officials said that such drills are carried out to prepare for contingencies where they have to take action against the adversaries if they try to capture Indian areas by using the routes of valleys in this area.
"Today, a C-17 aircraft of the #IAF got airborne for Sudan carrying 24,000 kg of relief material. On its return journey, the aircraft will bring back approximately 150 stranded Indians," IAF said in a tweet.
The aircraft landed at Ahmedabad late in the evening on 4 May 2023 and then at the home base of Hindan late in the night on the same day. The crew thus flew through extended duty periods of nearly 24 hrs to get some of the last stranded countrymen back to India.
