Ahead of the upcoming bye-elections in Tripura and West Bengal, the BJP on Tuesday declared the names of candidates for poll-bound Assembly seats in these two states.
"Under the guidance and inspiration of Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial, AITC is pleased to announce the party’s candidate for the Dhupguri Bye-elections scheduled for 5th September 2023," the All India Trinamool Congress shared on X.
Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed confidence that the ruling BJP will emerge victorious in the upcoming bye-elections for two Assembly constituencies in the state, saying that the poll dates could be announced any time, the government informed through an official press release on Sunday
"The Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, has approved the proposal for the candidature of the following persons as Congress candidates to contest the bye-elections to the Legislative Council of Karnataka to be elected by the MLAs: Jagadish Shettar, Tippannappa Kamaknoor and NS Boseraju,"
The bypolls were announced after two seats in the Legislative Council went vacant. One seat fell vacant after the resignation of Laxman Prasad Acharya after he was appointed the Governor of Sikkim. Another seat fell vacant after the death of BJP member Banwari Lal Dohre.
After swearing-in as MLA of Jharsuguda, Dipali Das said, "It is a very emotional moment for me that I have taken oath on his birthday. I have promised CM Naveen Patnaik that I will always take care of the Jharsuguda people."
The bypoll, voting for which was held on May 10, was necessitated following the death of Karamjit Kaur's husband and Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary on January 14 this year following a cardiac arrest while taking part in the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The Aam Aadmi Party candidate Sushil Rinku on Saturday won the bypoll from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency which was considered a Congress stronghold for the past 24 years.
Slain Odisha Minister Naba Kishore Das's daughter Dipali Das, whom the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fielded in the constituency of her father, emerged victorious with a margin of 48,721 votes in the Jharsuguda by-election.
Addressing the party workers in Bhubaneswar, the BJD president said, "It's not important if it is a single-engine or double-engine government. What's important from the people's point of view is that there should be good governance. Pro-people governance always wins."
