Weighing in on the continuing drive against the drug menace, Punjab's Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Headquarters, Sukhchain Singh Gill, on Monday said while the sightings of drones laden with suspected contraband and narcotics have in increased, the recoveries have also gone up.
The BSF troops have successfully intercepted a drone and recovered one small plastic container of a contraband item weighing 565 grams, from the farming field near village Mode in Amritsar on Tuesday.
According to a press release issued by the BSF Punjab Frontier, "On the intervening night of October 12th / 13th, BSF intercepted a suspected drone as well as heard some dropping sounds near Village U/Dhaliwal, District Amritsar. As per the laid-down drill, BSF troops immediately reacted.
On November 1, during the afternoon hours, on specific information regarding the presence of a drone, a joint search operation was launched by BSF and Punjab Police on the outskirts of Village Rajatal, District Amritsar, the BSF Punjab Frontier said in a statement.
The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a China-made drone from a farming field on the outskirts of Bhaini village in Punjab's Amritsar during a search operation on Sunday. Earlier in the day also a similar drone was recovered by the BSF from Daoke village of the district.
According to officials, on October 29, during morning hours, on specific information regarding the presence of a drone, a search operation was launched by BSF on the outskirts of Daoke village.
The search operation launched during the morning hours of Saturday at around 8:30 am led to the recovery of a drone that had contraband items attached to it with the help of tape, said an official statement.
