Following the Union Government's decision to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan lauded the Cabinet's announcement while sharply criticising the DMK government in Tamil Nadu for its failure to address rampant casteism in the state.
"For the Congress party caste census has always been a prejudiced political tool for exploiting the deprived sections. Jawaharlal Nehru never conducted caste census. Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi never conducted caste census. They were always opposed to the welfare of the disadvantaged section
Earlier on April 27, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar asserted that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was trying to win the upcoming state Assembly elections by "climbing on the shoulders" of Lord Jagannath.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has termed the Centre's decision to conduct a caste census "the victory of crores of people of India". He added that when his party's leader Rahul Gandhi said "caste census is the X-ray of society," the BJP "ridiculed him, ignored him."

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday termed the Union Cabinet's decision to include caste enumeration in the national census a "100 per cent victory" of the unity of 90 per cent of PDA--Picchda (Backward classes), Dalits (Schedule Castes), and Alpasankhyaks (Minorities).
Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday welcomed the inclusion of caste-based data in the national census, stating that it would help shape government policies aimed at uplifting the downtrodden.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Wednesday that the party supports the government's decision to conduct caste enumeration during the forthcoming population census, but it should specify a timeline.
Owaisi also emphasised the urgent need to collect comprehensive data on the backwardness of Muslim communities, urging the BJP-led Centre to ensure transparency and policy alignment with the findings.
