Chandigarh police on Saturday detained Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers protesting outside Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence over the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute.
"All BJP leaders in Madhya Pradesh, including CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan were shocked by the caste-based census. BJP is strongly against caste-based census. BJP's DNA is against OBCs," he added.
Surya, who represents the Bangalore South constituency, made the remarks during a protest at Vidhana Soudha, alongside other BJP leaders, over the ongoing Cauvery River water conflict between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday met Punjab BJP leaders, including its state president Sunil Jakhar and national general secretary Tarun Chugh, in Amritsar to discuss the current political situation in the state.
Wading into the controversy around BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri's offensive remarks against BSP leader Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha, BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Monday said the outburst of his fellow party leader was the fallout of Ali's "running commentary" on leaders of the saffron party.

A clash erupted between two groups of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on the concluding day of 'Jan Ahirwad Yatra' in Orchha town of MP's Niwari district.
"BJP in order to dismiss this matter will show that they are taking action on it but this isn't the question. The question is, what makes BJP leaders talk in this manner again and again?" Khurshid told ANI.
