Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the accused, hiding in a house along the highway, opened fire on the police during the cordon-and-search operation.

This is the 5th chargesheet filed before an NIA special court in the national capital, in which the anti-terror agency has charged Rahul Sarkar with facilitating members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in committing terror activities in India.
The Canadian federal government earlier this week listed the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity under its Criminal Code giving authorities the power to freeze assets, block funding, and prosecute members under "anti-terrorism" laws.
The police officials have recovered five illegal weapons during the operation. The weapons include pistols (.32 bore), one pistol (.30 bore), and five extra magazines.
The arrested were identified as Kartik Jakhar and Kavish. They opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the police shot one of the criminals in the leg and caught them, the police said.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation revealed that they fled to Nepal after committing the murder and returned on the directions of their foreign-based handlers to commit a sensational crime in Punjab.
