This further consolidates India's effort to enhance its representation at the apex of maritime organisations in the world as per the Maritime India Vision (MIV 2030) to enhance and explore possibilities in maritime trade.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a consultation with senior officials of Ministry of External Affairs and envoys on strengthening India's commitment to BIMSTEC.
"The adoption of the convention would enable persons with disabilities to have access to fundamental rights, health and education, economic independence and civil and political rights," said Tshering Tshomo, Chairperson of the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee.
"Concluded a visit to Thailand for the BIMSTEC and Mekong Ganga Cooperation meetings. Took forward Neighbourhood First and Act East," Jaishankar said in a tweet.
During the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' Retreat hosted by Thailand on Monday, there was broad agreement on the importance of creating crisis response mechanisms to coordinate different contingencies.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Nepali counterpart, Narayan Prakash Saud on Monday, on the sidelines of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Foreign Ministers' Retreat in Thailand's capital Bangkok.
"Pleased to meet Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen. Discussed ongoing bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Also exchanged views on regional issues," Jaishankar tweeted.
"Honored to call on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, along with my colleagues from BIMSTEC countries. Conveyed greetings and good wishes of PM @narendramodi," Jaishankar tweeted.
BIMSTEC is an economic and technical initiative which brings together the countries of the Bay of Bengal for multifaceted cooperation. The retreat would discuss ways to further deepen the BIMSTEC agenda and strengthen the organisation.
"Secy (East) @AmbSaurabhKumar held in-depth consultations in Dhaka with Foreign Secretary Amb Masud Bin Momen of Bangladesh on BIMSTEC related issues," MEA Official Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted on Thursday.
