"If someone consumes spurious liquor, they will die," said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday after the death toll in the Chhapra Hooch tragedy rose to 39.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday slammed the Bihar Chief Minister over the hooch tragedy in the state and said that if his policies are not being implemented on the ground then he should resign.
In the wake of the Chhapra hooch tragedy, Bihar Industry Minister Sameer Mahaseth claimed on Wednesday that the strength of the body has to be improved to tolerate 'poisonous' liquor.
The former national president of Janata Dal-United, Singh, on Wednesday launched a tirade against Nitish Kumar and slammed him for abandoning the state to fulfil his personal goal of becoming prime minister one day.
"People have died in Bihar even before the Liquor ban. People responsible will be punished. Strict action will be taken without any discrimination. we have always taken action against the accused," he said.
"The tenure of Nitish Kumar is over. He has lost his memory. He calls Prashant Kishor and BJP MLAs as 'tu', 'tum'. It happened earlier as well. He loses his temper very often now. But his disposition was not like this before," said the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar to ANI.
"A person identified as Narayan Kumar Soni has been arrested from Bihar. He called up NCP President Sharad Pawar's residence Silver Oak yesterday & threatened to kill him. He will be produced before the court today," Mumbai Police said.
The death toll in the alleged spurious liquor consumption case is expected to rise, police in Ishauvpur of Chhapra have said. Though the police have not confirmed the cause of death yet, it stirred a hue and cry among the villagers. It is apprehended that the number of deaths may increase
