The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has directed the Secretary to Government, Environment and Forest Department that there should be no more acquisition of elephants by private individuals or religious institutions.
The plea will be heard by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and also comprising Justices Ravindra Bhat and Bela Trivedi.
