Amid violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, West Bengal Assembly LoP, Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said that a blockade will be organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Basirhat border on December 10.
As the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha election is underway on Tuesday, BJP's Basirhat Lok Sabha candidate, Rekha Patra, expressed confidence in BJP's victory in West Bengal's Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, saying the BJP is going to win, and PM Modi will come to Basirhat.
As West Bengal police went to arrest an alleged accused in Saturday's violence in Basirhat's Sandeshkhali, the local women resisted and a scuffle broke out on Sunday.
Voting began at 7 am in West Bengal's nine seats including-- Barasat, Basirhat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, and Mathurapur.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate Rekha Patra from Basirhat has criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for their alleged hooliganism during elections and expressed confidence in being able to cast her vote this time.
Meanwhile, voting is underway in West Bengal's nine seats including-- Barasat, Basirhat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, and Mathurapur.
"Polling personnel moving from Dispersal center to the polling station of Sandeshkhali under North 24 Parganas district West Bengal," CEO West Bengal said in a post on 'X'.
The BJP has chosen Rekha Patra, who led the protests against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali, as the party's candidate. She is pitted against TMC's Haji Nurul Islam and CPIM's Nirapada Sardar.
"Everyone expects me to visit them during elections...I will definitely go everywhere. I will visit Sandeshkhali too...As soon as our candidate Haji Nurul wins Basirhat, I will visit Sandeshkhali within a few days," Mamata Banerjee said.
