Meghalaya has imposed a night curfew from 8 PM to 6 AM along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district. The curfew, lasting two months, aims to prevent illegal border crossings, unauthorized gatherings, and smuggling activities, with immediate effect from May 8, 2025.
Speaking about the situation in Bangladesh, 1971 war veteran, Wing Commander Devender Jeet Singh Kler said that the current state of the country is heartbreaking, and a student protest could not take this shape.
The protests in Bangladesh have been driven by demands for reform of the country's quota system for civil service jobs, which reserves positions for specific groups, including descendants of those who participated in the 1971 War of Independence against Pakistan.
