The troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya launched an operation, thwarted smuggling attempts near the Bangladesh border in two separate operations, and seized goods worth Rs 11 lakh, said an official statement by the BSF on Friday.

The Border Security Force (BSF), under the south Bengal frontier, thwarted a unique attempt of gold smuggling and apprehended a 59-year-old man with two packets containing gold, weighing 1,059.400 grams while being smuggled from Bangladesh to India, officials said on Wednesday.

Of these 509 composite BOPs, 383 are to be constructed along the India-Bangladesh border while the remaining 126 BPOs will be built along the India-Pakistan border.
"Based on concrete information, the troops caught a smuggler with 50 gold biscuits and 16 gold bars. The weight of the seized gold is 23 kg and its estimated value is Rs 14 crore. The smuggler was trying to bring this gold from Bangladesh to India," read an official press release.
