Mizoram is preparing for a historic milestone as the Bairabi-Sairang railway line nears completion, bringing the state capital Aizawl onto India's national railway map for the first time.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the state's first railway station at Sairang on September 13.
Md Zahid Akhtar told ANI on Sunday, "We have installed LED lighting in the tunnels, which is environment-friendly. We are also utilising solar power and plan to have a plant for the same in the future."
Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, is set to receive its first-ever rail connectivity with the completion of the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge rail line.
The Indian Railway has planned to extend the railway connectivity to the border areas of the North Eastern region as well as internally connect Imphal, Aizawl, and Kohima in the coming years, thereby reducing travel time to the region.
The Northeast has been the prime focus in all developmental agendas of the Centre and Indian Railways is significantly contributing towards the transformation of this region through better modes of transportation.
