Launching a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked why the former identifies himself as an Other Backward Class (OBC) when PM considers 'poor' as the only caste in India.

Amid the frenzied political discourse around caste census, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha on Monday hit out at the Congress and the BJP on Monday, claiming that neither has done anything for the backward classes.

BJP MP Nayab Singh Saini, belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC), was felicitated on Saturday for being appointed as Haryana BJP President. He thanked the party for showing confidence in him and appointing him as BJP state president.
Ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the next Chief Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state will be from a backward caste if the party is voted to power.
"Today this yatra is being taken out so that we can get the Scheduled Caste status soon. Till 1951, we were recognised as a Scheduled Tribe. We were put in the backward class group and betrayed," the Minister said while speaking to reporters.
