The Uttar Pradesh police on Friday booked Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan for stirring another controversy by giving a loose remark while campaigning for the bypoll election for the Rampur seat in Uttar Pradesh.
The court's ruling comes after Azam Khan Swati was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Cybercrime Wing on Sunday from his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday hit out at Samajwadi Party leader and former MP from Rampur by saying that Azam Khan was counted among the riot-inducing ministers in the SP government.
The Samajwadi Party did not field Azam Khan's wife Tanzeen Fatima or his daughter-in-law and gave ticket to his loyalist Asim Raza. Azam Khan or a member of his family have fought from the seat continuously since 1977.
