Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs from states gearing up for upcoming assembly elections discussed their strategies to defeat the BJP in the Congress Working Committee meeting held in Telangana.
The two-day Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Hyderabad concluded on Sunday, with party leaders expressing optimism about receiving a "clear mandate" in the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
The ruling BJP has declared its first list of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, the party's election in-charge for the state, informed on Thursday.
Amidst speculation surrounding the announcement of the election date, Pakistan's Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized that the delimitation process is a "constitutional" exercise, The News International reported on Wednesday.
"We have decided to go for seat-sharing arrangements and discussions at various states. The states where assembly elections are going to be held immediately will be given priority. The first rally will be held in Bhopal in the first week of October," TR Baalu said.
During the meeting, the committee deliberated on all the seats that the BJP had lost in the previous assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Approximately 36 out of 37 seats were discussed, where the BJP had faced defeat in the last legislative polls.
The INDIA bloc comprising over two dozen opposition parties decided to hold their first joint public meeting in Bhopal in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh in the first week of October and said the constituent parties will start seat-sharing talks at the earliest.
After the INDIA Alliance Coordination Committee meeting, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday said that the Committee has decided to start the process for determining seat-sharing "at the earliest".
