Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared fresh details about the arrangements to bring back the mortal remains of popular singer Zubeen Garg.
According to officials, a vehicle-based column of the 33 Assam Rifles was ambushed by unidentified terrorists around 5.50 pm on Friday at Nambol Sabal Leikai along National Highway 2. The troops were moving through a heavily built-up area when the attack took place. Two personnel, including
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that efforts are underway to bring back the mortal remains of noted singer Zubeen Garg from Singapore to New Delhi by Saturday evening, and subsequently to Guwahati the same night.
He considered the attack a "cruel blow" to the country and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased jawans. Biren Singh also demanded the harshest punishment for the perpetrators of the attack.
Garg's sudden passing left the entire nation shocked, with many paying emotional tributes across social media platforms. Fans in large numbers also gathered outside the singer's residence in Guwahati, Assam, amid the arrival of his family members and friends.
Two other jawans were injured in the attack. According to officials, terrorists opened fire on a vehicle carrying the troops while it was travelling on a busy road and later fled in a white van.
'Ya Ali' fame singer Zubeen Garg passed away on Friday in Singapore. He was there in the city to attend the North East India Festival and was scheduled to perform on September 20, 2025.
