In a major crackdown on the drug trade, Assam Police and Assam Rifles on Tuesday carried out a joint operation in Cachar district and seized 648 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 3.5 crore.
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major narcotics seizure and said that heroin worth Rs 3.16 crore was recovered and a drug peddler has been arrested.
According to officials, the operation was based on input indicating that a consignment of Yaba tablets, brought from a neighbouring state, was about to be smuggled into Bangladesh by throwing it over the fence on Sunday night.

In a joint operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police and Karimganj district police seized a huge quantity of drugs worth Rs 115 crore and arrested four accused in Karimganj district on Friday.
The Assam Police seized 1.7 kilograms of heroin worth approximately Rs 8.5 crore and arrested one drug peddler on Thursday in the Dholaikhal area near the Assam-Mizoram border.
