NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal on Thursday welcomed the Union government's decision to conduct a caste census along with the decadal census, calling it a long-pending demand since 1992.
Speaking to ANI, Prakash Ambedkar questioned the timing and intent behind the announcement, alleging that it is aimed at suppressing growing demands for an OBC caste census and concealing what he termed the "economic genocide" of backward communities under upper-caste rule.

"This landmark step will ensure that India has authentic, scientific, and transparent caste data--moving away from politically motivated state-level surveys that often lacked credibility or uniformity," he added.
Amid ongoing political sparring, parties across the political spectrum have welcomed the Union Cabinet's decision to approve the caste census, marking a moment of consensus on a sensitive issue that has long been at the centre of debates on social justice and representation.
