The Madras High Court on July 14 held legal the arrest of Balaji by the ED, and subsequent judicial custody granted by a lower court on money laundering charges against him linked to the cash-for-jobs scam.
After the incident came to light, members of the Banjara community protested outside the Shivamogga police station against the church priest for allegedly assaulting a minor belonging to their community.
"The FIR was lodged on May 18 and it was a zero FIR. I'm sure that the police had this video but, from May 18 till this date, we are sitting idle without taking any action on it. Now they have taken action because the video has been leaked and got viral," Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said.
Reacting to businessman Sujit Patkar's arrest by the ED in BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) Covid scam case, Ambadas Danve said, "ED and other agencies are servants of the BJP, they arrested Sanjay Raut too. He was in jail for 100 days."
"Along with Rs 85,000 cash, a frozen amount of Rs 2,24,000, five sim cards, eight mobile phones and three ATM cards have been recovered from the possession of the accused", the police added.
After the arrest, Gujarat Police brought accused Tathya Patel and his father Pragnesh to the crime spot where the accident occurred on a flyover at Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) highway on the night of Wednesday and Thursday.
"Four main accused arrested in the Viral Video Case: 03 (three) more main accused of the heinous crime of abduction and gangrape under Nongpok Sekmai PS, Thoubal District have been arrested today. So a total 04 (four) persons have been arrested till now," Manipur Police tweeted.
Amidst a nationwide outcry over the appalling incident in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that two people including the main culprit have been arrested, adding that his government would spare no effort in seeking the death penalty for the accused.
