Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar denied the charges levelled against him in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. He stated before a Rouse Avenue court that he was not present at the site of the riots and was falsely implicated.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to accused persons in six acquittals in the anti-Sikh riots cases, against which the Centre and the Delhi government have filed SLPS (appeals).
His comments followed the Delhi Court's decision to sentence Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to jail in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Cheema also accused the BJP of taking "false credit," asserting that it was the Supreme Court that had constituted the committee for the case.
Earlier in the day, a Delhi court sentenced Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment in connection with the killing of a father-son duo in the Saraswati Vihar area during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. This followed his conviction on February 12 for their murders.

Ahead of the trial court's pronouncement of the sentence for Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, members of the Sikh community led by Sikh leader Gurlad Singh organized a protest in front of the court on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Union and the Delhi government to file Statutory Leave Petitions (SLPs) in connection with six cases in which various accused persons of the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots had been granted acquittals.

Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva on Wednesday took a dig at the Nehru-Gandhi family, alleging that they had nurtured and promoted those accused in the 1984 riots after Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi convicted former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
