Congress MP Mohammad Jawed on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government over the Waqf Amendment Bill, alleging it was taking the country gradually towards civil war.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that Waqf Amendment Bill, on which JPC has given its report, will be tabled in the Budget session of Parliament. The Budget session is slated to conclude on April 4.
The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday passed a set of amendment bills increasing the salaries and allowances of ministers, MLAs, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker.
"This is a way to mark protest in a democracy. Today, you will see Muslims wearing black armbands come to offer namaz. This will send a clear message that the community is against this bill," AIMPLB spokesperson Rasool IIyas told ANI.
"We oppose this bill not because it is a religious issue but because it is an issue of India's secularism," Kumar told ANI, emphasising that the bill's implications go beyond religious boundaries.
"Each political party will be adopting a suitable method of protest against the Waqf bill, my party has decided that we will oppose this bill because the only intention of the BJP government is to create polarisation," Brittas told ANI at parliament premises.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has appealed to Muslims across the country to wear black armbands on Alvida Juma, the last Friday of Ramzan, in protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
Amit Shah referred to the Citizenship Amendment Act, stating that people from six oppressed communities in neighboring countries had taken refuge in India under the law. Shah also stated that India's approach to immigration is rooted in its historical traditions and values.
