JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal defends the approval of the WAQF Bill, highlighting the democratic process behind the 25 amendments across 14 clauses, and calls the process transparent and in line with parliamentary procedure.
The Waqf Amendment bill aims to overhaul the Waqf Act of 1995, which governs the management of Waqf properties in India. The bill has been a subject of controversy, with opposition parties alleging that it undermines the rights of Muslims and the federal structure of India.
The JPC Chairperson, Jagdambika Pal, stated that the amendments were accepted based on a majority vote, with 16 members supporting the changes and 10 opposing them.
Speaking to ANI, Patwari said, "When it comes to protecting the Constitution, every member of Congress party will always be ready to commit to it. Today, BJP is again raising questions on reservation, about amending the Constitution and Amit Shah ji insulted Ambedkar ji as per a conspiracy.
The meeting was attended by prominent members including JPC chairperson Jagdambika Pal, BJP MPs Dilip Saikia, Aprajita Sarangi, Sanjay Jaiswal, Nishikant Dubey, Arun Bharati, Naresh Mahske, and Sudha Kulkarni.
"I allowed all the JPC members to put forth their views. When I tried to answer their questions, they (opposition MPs) started sloganeering, making noise and using unparliamentary words," Pal said.
