The United States has carried out airstrikes in Iraq targeting facilities used by "Iranian-backed militias" in the country following repeated attacks on US forces, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement on Tuesday (local time).

During their conversation, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasised that the attack was on the Iranian terrorist group and that no Pakistani citizens were attacked.
"On Pakistan, none of the nationals of the friendly and brotherly country of Pakistan were targeted by Iranian missiles and drones," Abdollahian said on Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
