The aircraft, belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF), was carrying 102 Army personnel on board and was on a routine flight from Chandigarh to Leh when it met with the tragic accident over five decades ago.
A Douglas C-54 aircraft transporting fuel crashed into a frozen river shortly after takeoff on Tuesday in Fairbanks, Alaska, reported ABC News, citing the National Transportation Safety Board.
"At about 5 pm on March 18, one Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA)/ Searcher, during a routine training sortie at INS Garuda, Kochi, crashed about one mile short of the runway," the Indian Navy said.
Last November, US forces and Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force grounded their fleet of Ospreys after one of the tilt-rotor aircraft crashed off the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima , killing all eight US military personnel on board.
Police Officer Chanchal Tiwari shared information about the incident and said, "The trainee aircraft was flying from Neemuch to Dhana Sagar. There was some issue in the aircraft, due to which Chopper pilot Nancy Mishra had to conduct an emergency landing."
Both pilots managed to eject safely following the incident. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident, the IAF said.
Confirming the plane crash in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province in the early morning hours on Sunday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said the aircraft was an air ambulance flying from Thailand to Moscow.

According to officials, the crash took place at around 8:55 am during training at Air Force Academy near Dindigul district. The pilots include an instructor and one cadet.
