BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Sunday blamed Aam Aadmi Party chief and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the "life-threatening" level of air pollution in Delhi.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has invoked the Stage II GRAP Action Plan across the National Capital Region. This includes carrying out mechanical/vacuum sweeping and water sprinkling of the identified roads on a daily basis.
Experts have pointed out that stubble burning, though is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, is not the only reason behind the air pollution in Delhi, and there are several other factors within Delhi that drive the menace.
Kicking off the campaign at the ITO intersection, the Delhi Environment Minister appealed to drivers to help reduce pollution by turning off their vehicle engines at red light.
In the national capital region (NCR), the air quality is said to be severely dangerous for citizens, especially those who suffer from respiratory issues and other life-threatening diseases.
The meeting focused on evaluating ongoing efforts to tackle pollution from various sources, including paddy stubble burning, vehicular emissions, road and construction dust, solid waste management, and diesel generator (DG) sets.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday stressed the need to stop crop residue burning, which affects air quality in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and asked state governments to take steps to curb pollution.

Amid deteriorating air pollution in Delhi, Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday called the Centre to impose a stringent ban on buses running on subpar diesel and put a ban on BS III and BS IV buses operating in NCR areas of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra chaired the High-Level Task Force meeting on air pollution in Delhi-NCR at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Friday.
