Several Bharatiya Janata Party leaders mourned the death of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was onboard the London-bound Air India flight that crashed in Gujarat's Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick with 242 passengers crashed in Meghaninagar area at 1:39 pm (IST) shortly after it took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The CJI and Companion Judges of the Supreme Court of India, along with officials of the Registry, expressed deepest condolence to the families affected in the air crash at Ahmedabad, according to a release from the Supreme Court.
In a post on X, Rai said, "The news of the plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and painful. May God give strength to the families who have lost their loved ones to bear this sorrow."
The London-bound flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hours, was carrying 242 passengers incuding 12 crew members. Of these, 169 are Indians, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian and 7 Portuguese nationals.
Speaking to ANI, Mohol said, "It's a very unfortunate incident. We are all rushing to Ahmedabad. There were 242 people onboard the aircraft. We have issued helpline numbers."
"The news of the crash of Air India passenger plane in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and heart-breaking. I express my deepest condolences to all the passengers, pilots and crew travelling in the plane. May God grant speedy recovery to the injured," her post read.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday rushed to Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where victims of the Air India plane crash were admitted for treatment.
