The trilateral exercise was held on Sunday in airspace north of South Korea's southern island of Jeju, the military said as per Yonhap news outlet. The three nations conducted similar drills earlier too this year.
The 12-day Korea Flying Training will begin Monday, April 17 at the Gwangju Air Base in Gwangju, 267 kilometres south of Seoul, mobilizing some 110 aircraft and more than 1,400 troops, according to the armed service, Yonhap reported.
North Korean missiles flew some 130 kilometres at an apogee of around 20 kilometres, according to the statement of the South Korean military as provocations from Pyongyang continue to escalate in the region.
During large-scale joint air drills between the US and South Korea, Seoul scrambled approximately 80 fighter jets after detecting North Korean warplanes. Tensions have been rising in the region since the joint drills began on Monday, prompting an angry response from Pyongyang.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced the launch but it did not provide other details immediately. This latest missile test comes ahead of the US-South Korea air drills called "Vigilant Storm," next week.
