West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday travelled to Ghatal, which is reeling under devastating floods caused by incessant rainfall and visited a flood relief camp in Arambagh.
Hakim, a local resident, stated that villagers had been facing difficulties due to the heavy rain and expressed hope that the government would send help to the affected areas.
Several homes, hotels, and shops have been destroyed, with many more damaged. Teams are working tirelessly, even during the night, to rescue people trapped in the affected areas.
Two cloudbursts, one in Dharali and another in the Sukhi Top area, caused widespread destruction, with Dharali bearing the brunt. Reportedly, the region also suffered from mudslides and flash floods.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has formally submitted a detailed representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI), urging the constitutional body to address critical concerns affecting electoral integrity and a level playing field, said a press statement from BRS on Tuesday.
Addressing the media persons here, the Chief Minister said the water level has risen above the danger mark of 113 meters, reaching 117 meters in the Auraiya district.
