According to police, the bus was on its way from Coonoor to Tenkasi when it met with the accident. The passengers who were onboard the bus were returning home from a tour in Ooty.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday announced ex-gratia of Rs two lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, who died in a bus accident in Tamil Nadu's Marapalam.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore Zone, Saravana Sundar, while speaking to ANI, said, "Around eight people died, while a few were seriously injured in the accident. Further investigation is underway."

"I have got information that cash kept in the bank locker was eaten away by termites. This is an accidental incident. The concerned bank is carrying out an investigation into the reason behind the incident," said Vishal Dixit, Lead District Manager, Bank of Baroda.
A pilgrim died while several others were injured after a tourist bus collided with a vehicle in Bihar's Kaimur district on Friday morning, said an official.
According to police, the incident took place on the Chanderkot-Rajgarh link road. The victims were coming from Chanderkot and going to Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh.
A Bellur Police official said, "The incident took place around 8:30 am near Adichunchanagiri Institute. The car rammed into the back of a bus parked beside the road."
