The Indian diaspora in Nigeria expressed their happiness after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the community in Abuja on Sunday during his Nigeria visit on the first leg of his three-nation tour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "This is my first visit to Nigeria as Prime Minister. This affection is a big capital for me. To spend time with you - this moment will remain with me, all my life... 'Mai akela nahi aaya hun, mai apne sath Bharat ki mitti ki mehak lekar aaya hu.'"
MEA Secretary (ER) Dammu Ravi said, "In the context of Global South, there is a very strong commitment from both leaders to deepen this understanding on the agenda of development which is very dear to the Global South, is taken forward and the global discourse is built on it."
After being conferred with Nigeria's highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the honour will continue to inspire him to elevate the India-Nigeria strategic partnership to new heights.
"On behalf of 140 crore Indians, I express condolences over the loss of lives due to flood in Nigeria last month. In support of relief works, India is sending 20 tons of humanitarian aid," PM Modi said during a meeting with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
