An official confirmation of the casualty from the Jammu and Kashmir administration has not come yet, however different state governments have released the statement talking about certain people from the respective states losing their lives in the attack.

Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh shared details about the case. The abduction was reported at around 10:30 AM, when the boy's mother received a ransom call, threatening to kill her son if the family informed the police.
Police said that the incident took place late on April 21. At approximately 10:27 PM, police received a call about an injured person lying in a pool of blood near Balmiki Basti, close to Rashid Market.
Ashiq Hussain, an officer at the control room, stated that all villagers in the villages of the upstream and downstream were informed about the situation and were also instructed to stay away from the banks of the river.
