Zimbabwe's ex-army chief named ruling party's VP

Harare [Zimbabwe], December 23 (ANI): Former Zimbabwe Defense Forces commander Constantino Chiwenga has been appointed as the new vice president of the ruling party ZANU-PF.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba said in a statement: "Mr. Chiwenga, retired from the military last week, after leading a military intervention that resulted in Mr. Mugabe's (former President Robert Mugabe) resignation in November. He has been appointed to the same position together with Minister of Defense and War Veteran Kembo Mohadi", Xinhua reported.

Both these appointments pave the way for the leaders to be either appointed the new vice-president of the country.

The post of the Vice-President fell vacant after Emmerson Mnangagwa became the new President of Zimbabwe last month. Mugabe, after 37 years in power, resigned, after the army and his ruling ZANU-PF party turned against him due to his dictatorial rule. (ANI)
