Patna (Bihar) [India], July 19 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh on Wednesday took a jibe at the opposition, saying "When 26-party-people call themselves 'INDIA', what can be a bigger joke than this?"
"The country belongs to 140 crores people. 26-party people call themselves INDIA, what can be a bigger joke than this? It is difficult for them to stay together as there are contradictions," RCP Singh said.
While commenting on RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, "Even Lalu Ji knows that work has been done under every sector under the leadership of Modi Ji (PM Modi). The country's people will again elect Modi Ji as the Prime Minister in 2024."
Earlier, ahead of the opposition meeting in Karnataka's Bengaluru yesterday, the RJD Chief criticized the Prime Minister saying, "The country needs to be saved. Democracy needs to be shielded. Under PM Modi's regime, everything was destroyed".
Praising PM Modi, Singh said, "PM Modi has glorified the country's name in every sector. India has come forward as an economic power. We became the fourth country to have launched the 'Chandrayaan'. The people of the country are clearly seeing what the PM has done for them".
Hitting out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, he said, "Delhi is grappling with the flood. He does not worry about that."
Criticising the Bihar government, the BJP leader said, "The law and order have been given a cold shoulder. Since the Chief Minister is busy uniting the opposition. The people of Bihar will give a befitting reply to him".
Notably, the second opposition meet was concluded a day earlier in Bengaluru. The Opposition with 26 parties came up with a name for the alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, announcing that it would be called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, or INDIA.
On Tuesday, while addressing the media after the meeting, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Earlier, we were UPA and now all the 26 parties have given a name to the opposition and that is – Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). Everybody has agreed upon this, and the resolution for the name was passed unanimously.”
The representatives of the 26 parties who met for the brainstorming meeting in Bengaluru also decided to set up an 11-member coordination committee, including all the major parties, and a ‘secretariat’ in Delhi for campaign management and for coordinating the working of various sub-committees, which will take up specific issues.
“The next opposition meeting will be held in Mumbai; the date will be announced soon. An 11-member coordination committee will be set up. Names of committee members will be announced in Mumbai,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said.
Significantly, the first opposition meet was held in Bihar's Patna on May 23 with an aim to unite the opposition to take on the BJP in the upcoming LS elections in 2024. (ANI)
