"Hope ECI takes cognisance," says Former Himachal CM Jairam Thakur after Congress workers show black flags to Kangana Ranaut

After Congress workers showed black flags to BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut, Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jairam Thakur urged the Election Commission of India to take cognisance of the incident, saying that the Model Code of Conduct has been violated.

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 20 (ANI): After Congress workers showed black flags to BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut, Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jairam Thakur urged the Election Commission of India to take cognisance of the incident, saying that the Model Code of Conduct has been violated.
Thakur also raised suspicions over the administration allowing Congress to carry out a procession in Lahaul and Spiti district right before the public meeting of BJP was about to start.
"Congress is frustrated. Right before our program, the administration allowed Congress to carry out a procession. I had urged the Superintendent of police to ensure that adequate law and order be maintained. But when our program was about to conclude, a scuffle happened as Congress workers came and started attacking us with sticks and were carrying flags. Our party worker got injured," Jairam Thakur told ANI.
"When we decided to return to the helipad, they were attacking our cars and we got stuck their for 20 minutes," he said.
The Opposition leader further stated that "no FIR has been registered by the police yet" in the incident.
"Hope Election commission takes cognisance of the matter. Separately our party leaders will be going to Shimla to report this incident to the poll body. This is a clear case of violation of Model Code of Conduct," he said.
Kangana along with former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur addressed a public rally in Kaza today.People also raised slogans "Kangana Ranaut go back" slogans against the actor-turned-politician. Police was also present at the spot to maintain law and order.
Polling in Himachal, which is scheduled for June 1, will not only pit candidates vying for Lok Sabha membership from four seats but also elect members for six assembly seats that fell vacant following the resignation and switchover of dissident Congress lawmakers. The BJP, which won all four Lok Sabha constituencies in the state in the 2019 elections. (ANI)
