Patna (Bihar) [India], September 27 (ANI): Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan on Friday expressed dismay over the brutal assault on the students of Bihar in West Bengal and called it a "shameful incident."
"The topic of our meeting was the schemes running in Bihar, but the most important topic was how Bihar students are being cruelly treated in West Bengal... I always raise the issue of how Biharis are treated in other states... This is a very shameful incident, its video has been viral for 2 days... The Constitution of India allows any Indian to go to any corner of the country and get education, employment, or business, despite this, if there is such a mentality in any state then it is a matter of concern. I raised this matter before the Chief Minister," Chirag Paswan told reporters.
He also trained guns at former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, alleging him to be silent on the issue.
"The Leader of Opposition (Tejashwi Yadav) is silent on this...I discussed this with the Chief Minister. I am happy that the local administration has taken it promptly and contacted the administration there. Chief Minister himself is personally monitoring this matter. I hope that justice will be done to those children," he added.
On the incident of alleged beating of a Bihari student in West Bengal, RJD MP Misa Bharti said that RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav took cognizance of it.
"We all saw it on social media... RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav took cognizance of it and he spoke to the people there. We got to know that action has also been taken on it. Such incidents should not happen anywhere," Misa Bharti said.
Earlier, the Bagdogra police under Siliguri Police Commemorate arrested two people for allegedly threatening and harassing two young men who came to Siliguri from Bihar to attend an exam.
The accused have been identified as Rajat Bhattacharya and Giridhari Roy- residents of West Bengal's Siliguri are known to be linked to Bangla Pokkho, a pro-Bengali advocacy organization.
The incident came to light after a video of the youth went viral on social media, gaining widespread condemnation.
In the video that has gone viral, the youth can be seen sleeping in a room when a group of miscreants entered and asked them whether they could understand Bengali. When one student replied that they couldn't, the miscreants began questioning them aggressively, claiming they shouldn't be taking exams in other states.
One of the students attempted to explain that they had been assigned to the Siliguri exam center but was repeatedly asked to show his documents. The group claimed to be from the IB and harassed the youth.
Biswachand Thakur, DCP of Siliguri Police, announced that two accused were arrested by Bagdogra police on Thursday evening following a complaint.
"On the basis of a complaint, two persons were arrested by Bagdogra police on Thursday evening on the charge of threatening and harassing two youths claiming to IB, police officers. Further investigation is underway," Biswachand Thakur said. (ANI)
