New Delhi [India], Nov 15 (ANI): Scuffle broke out in Delhi's Patiala House Court on Thursday after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa slapped a 1984 Sikh riots case convict.
The incident took place when the convict was in the court's corridor and Sirsa all of a sudden came up to him and slapped. Subsequently a scuffle broke out. However, security forces on duty immediately separated Sirsa and the convict before the matter could escalate.
"They killed innocent people in 1984. Still they are roaming around as goons. They were raising slogans that they will make us remember 1984 riots," Sirsa told ANI.
The court was hearing the murder case of Avtar Singh and Hardev Singh. It has reserved its order and will pronounce it on November 20.
The court had on Wednesday held two accused, Naresh Sehrawat and Yashpal Singh, guilty in connection with the murder of the two Sikhs in South Delhi's Mahipalpur area during 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Both the accused were taken into custody immediately after the pronouncement of the court judgement. Sehrawat and Singh were earlier booked on the charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, weapon possession, attempt to murder and murder, etc under Sections 452, 302, 307, 324, 395, 436 read with Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to official records, about 2,800 Sikhs were killed across India, including 2,100 in Delhi, during the riots in 1984 which broke out after then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards. (ANI)
