Family visits Hyderabad man shot in Chicago

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] January 10 (ANI): The family of a man from Hyderabad, Syed Baquar Hussain, who was shot at by robbers at a gas station in Chicago two weeks ago, finally met him in a hospital there.

The family from Hyderabad got their visas with the help of Ministry of External Affairs to visit the Christ Hospital in Chicago to see the condition of the victim.

"He is out of danger and has been discharged now. I thank External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj and the Indian Embassy in Chicago for helping us in getting the visas and taking care of him. Such incidents are on a rise in the United States. Therefore, the government must look into the matter, keeping in mind safety of the people," Syed Muzaffer Hussain, son of the victim, told ANI here.

He added that in an armed robbery his father was shot in Chicago and was hospitalised. He had undergone four and half hours of surgery.

"Now my father is out of danger and recovering. In our family my mother and brother got visas to visit the USA. I would like to thank MEA Sushma Swaraj and the Indian embassy in Chicago for issuing us visas and helping our father. The Indian government and embassy should initiate some action and should provide safety and security for innocents as a measure," he said.

Earlier on December 29, Hyderabad resident Muzaffer urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take note of the incident in which his father Baquar was shot at Dolton Gas Station in Chicago.

An Indian boy was shot dead in the robbery attempt at the gas station.

According to the local media reports, the deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Arshad Vora, a native of Gujarat's Nadiad city.

"My father was working there since 12 years and everything was normal, and this incident happened suddenly. My father was hit by 2 bullets and the son of the gas stations' owner was shot dead," Muzaffer had told ANI. (ANI)
